This coming December 13th, 2015, I will be doing my 8th winter charity swim and this year’s recipient is the Center For Wildlife in York, Maine.
For 30 years this facility has provided medical care, sanctuary and treatment for injured and orphaned wildlife until they can be released back into the wild. They are a non profit organization and also provide educational programs to schools and the public. They have set up their donation page and I’m asking you folks to please consider donating to their cause.
On December 13th I will be swimming 6 miles of the York River to the York Harbor Inn where my band, the Serfs, will perform to benefit the Center. To make the event a success I have close to $2500 in expenses to cover. Swimming 5 days a week all year round, a wetsuit doesn’t last very long and loses its effectiveness in keeping me warm. For each charity swim I have to purchase close to $1000 worth in gear to complete a swim in 35 degree water. Water temperatures in the creek plummet in the 30s and my grocery bill triples this time of year. The 4 of us band members are full time musicians, of which 3 members have children so I have to pay the band to play for the event. To cover my costs I set up a Go Fund Me page. I am happy to announce that I have exceeded my goal! Thank you so much to everyone who donated!!!
Stay warm everyone and hope you are well!!! Gary Sredzienski, The Creekman
